So we often speak and meet a lot of our customers, and apart from few others, all have a similar query, i.e., “Despite having a great website online, why don’t I get traffic? Why don’t people know me? Regardless of providing best of services and numerous testimonials on my website, why don’t they see me when they are looking for similar services?” And we just have one thing to say, “Is your site, search engine optimized?” or “are you following SEO rules?” and what we hear them say is, “Does that really matter?”, or sometimes worse, “what is it?”
Before we think and discuss over the pros and cons, or relevance of SEO, let us first try and find out, what exactly is SEO?
According to Gartner, “Search engine optimization or SEO refers to the process of improving the position that your website appears at in the “organic” search results returned by sites such as Google.” As per Wikipedia, “Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s “natural” or un-paid (“organic”) search results.”
Sharing some facts,
“93% people on an average choose from the first page of Google search results, of which 60% would click on the first ranker website.”
“77% people prefer organic search listing over paid/advertised search listing.”
In simpler terms, SEO is the deciding factor as to at which position, on which page would your website rank on a certain search result. This gives an explanation why despite having a great product and wonderful imagery, your website doesn’t fetch customers; because you didn’t care of SEO rules and your website is now lost amongst the thousand others. So, unless and until the customer knows you and searches specifically for your website, you are practically invisible. Which certainly means SEO is very important for your business to flourish and reach its audience. Because, as a rule of thumb, the higher up the ladder your website ranks, more are the chances of your website being clicked and hence increased traffic and leads. So, we all need SEO, our websites need to be search engine optimized.
